St. Lucie County Hosts American Red Cross Water Safety Course

St. Lucie County’s Parks and Recreation’s Aquatics Division is hosting an American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Course starting Tuesday, March 30.
The purpose of this course is to teach you how to teach safe behaviors in and around the water. It also certifies participants as an American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor. This certification will allow you to teach water safety and swim instructions in accordance with the American Red Cross guidelines.
Prerequisites include:
- Age 16 by the last day of the course
- Pass a Level 4 or higher swim skills test in six basic strokes
- Tread water for two minutes without using your hands
- Currently posses or take the Fundamentals of Instructor Training
The cost to participate is $175 per person for the Water Safety Instructor and $25 per person for Fundamentals of Instructor Training (certification required for this course).
The course will be held at Ravenswood Pool, 200 Ravenswood Lane, Port St. Lucie. Classes will be held:
- Tuesday, March 30 from 5:30 – 7 p.m. (pre-course)
- Friday, April 2 from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. for Fundamentals of Instructor Training and from 2 – 5 p.m. from Water Safety Instructor Training
- Saturday, April 3 from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
- Tuesday, April 6 from 5:30 – 8:30 p.m.
- Thursday, April 8 from 5:30 – 8:30 p.m.
- Saturday, April 10 from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
- Saturday, April 17 from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
