Who, who, WHOOO will be swooping into the Oxbow on Friday, Feb. 12? That’s right it’s our friends from Busch Wildlife Sanctuary and their resident owls making their annual migration to the Oxbow’s Nature at Night series. Don’t miss this opportunity to get a rare and up-close look at some of Florida’s fabulous owls.
The program begins at 6:30 p.m. with a presentation by the Busch Wildlife staff, followed by a moonlit hike to call in some of the Oxbow’s wild owls during their busy nighttime activities.
Florida has five native owls: Barn, Burrowing, Screech, Barred and Great Horned Owls. These magnificent birds of prey can hunt in complete darkness and their diets help us keep the rodent population under control. Just one Barn Owl can eat more than 1,000 mice in a year.
Busch Wildlife Sanctuary is a non-profit, educationally facility that treats injured animals. Dedicated to developing community awareness of the value of Florida’s natural resources, Busch Wildlife Sanctuary provides free, medical and rehabilitative services to injured wild animals. The ultimate goal is to return the animals to their natural habitats.
Admission to the Nature at Night Owl Prowl program is $5 per person and advanced ticket purchase is required. Tickets can be purchased with Visa or MasterCard by phone or in person at the Oxbow Eco-Center, St. Lucie County’s premiere environmental learning center. The Oxbow is located at 5400 N.E. St. James Drive, approximately two miles south of Midway Road, across from the Publix plaza.
